The tool allows users to add a number of IP addresses, URL’s or other Internet based services, and runs scheduled checks to identify if the specified site or service is responding correctly. Should the check fail the tool will automatically notify your chosen contact by email, SMS or voice. The FastNet monitoring databases store the results of the tests for reporting purposes so you can always check on long term performance levels. The service is very easy to use and will only take a few minutes to set up, once you’ve added your sites and systems to the watch list our automated system will notify you if we detect a problem. Our monitoring facility is designed to be very reliable with no single point of failure. The service utilises, geographically distributed servers in a multi-tiered architecture, automated fail over, clustered databases, and load balancing. Take a look at the ‘Getting started’ section below for some helpful pointers to get you monitoring!
We have designed the FastNet monitoring facility to be as easy to use as possible without sacrificing any functionality. Each check will involve the monitoring service connecting to your specified site or system on the Internet and returning a ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ based on whether it was able to reach it or not. Getting started is easy, click on "Click here to add a new Check," pick HTTP on the check type, enter a web site address in the URL field, and click "Save." Results it will show in the far right hand ‘results’ column. Each check will show either a PASS or FAIL result, you can then click on the result for a more detailed report.
Click on the link in the ’Target’ column to get more detailed information about the specific check.
Click on the ‘Edit’ button next to the link to edit the check's settings.
To add a contact, click on the Contact tab, then click on "Click here to add a new Contact". Fill in the details of the new contact, and click Save. When you set up notifications, you will be able to select individual addresses, phone numbers, and twitter handles for each notification.
To edit an existing contact, click on their name.
